The Year of Dreaming Dangerously. By Slavoj Žižek. London: Verso 2012. Pages: 142.
“The present book endeavors to contribute
to such a “cognitive mapping” (Jameson) of our constellation. After offering a
brief description of the main features of today’s capitalism, it goes on to outline
the contours of its hegemonic ideology, focusing on the reactionary phenomena
(populist revolts in particular) that arise in reaction to social antagonisms.
The second half of the book deals with the two great emancipatory movements of
2011—the Arab Spring and Occupy Wall Street—before confronting, via a
discussion of The Wire, the difficult question of how to fight the system
without contributing to its enhanced functioning…” (From The Introduction, p. 3).
